Bristol History Room Program: Life and Legends of the Old Leatherman

Bristol History Room Program:
Life & legends of the”Old Leatherman.”
Saturday, March 27, 10:00am - 11:00am | Bristol Public Library
Online via Zoom

Who was the “Old Leatherman?”

About this Event

Often described as a legendary figure, The” Old Leather Man” was a real person. Known best for his wanderings during the late 1800’s, and his distinctive leather suit, his travels throughout Connecticut and New York continually brought him on foot along a 365 mile circular route, appearing in the same towns every 34 days, for 30 years. Who was he? Why did he continually tread the same loop year after year? Join us as we discuss the man, the myths about his life, and the mystery that surrounds his story to this day.

Children’s Rhyme for the 1880’s:

(To the Tune of “Ring-a-‘Round -a-Rosie”)

"One misty moisty morning, when cloudy was the weather,

I chanced to meet an old man all dressed in leather!

I began to curtsey, he began to grin,

Howdy-do, howdy-do and howdy-do again!"

Presented online via Zoom. A valid email is required to register. No charge.
