Early Inns & Taverns Across Connecticut and New England (244,986 Views)
Early Inns & Taverns Across Connecticut and New England
Thursday, November, 02, 06:30pm - 08:00pm | Bristol Public Library
Take a tour through taverns and time with john Cilio
Taverns in early colonial America were known by a variety of names including; Ordinary, inn, tippling house, and public house to name a few. In New England, initially, inns were tightly controlled. The innkeepers were instructed to disallow the use of tobacco, a stiff drink or card games. During the American Revolution, the word “Inn” seemed too British and the inns became known as taverns. Tavern signs are a story in themselves. In this fun and unique program, John Cilio of VintageFlyer will share some insights on specific inns across New England with a focus on Connecticut locations. Several still stand.

Mantels for the Season (62,478 Views)
Mantels for the Season
November 17 @ 10:00 am - December 30 @ 5:00 pm
The American Clock & Watch Museum is making final preparations for this year’s Mantels for the Season event that is slated to run from Friday, November 17th through December 30th.
This year’s theme will focus on Bristol’s new Cultural District. Mantels and trees in the museum’s eight galleries will be decorated by businesses and organizations associated with the district, which includes historic Federal Hill and select downtown sections of the city.
Cultural Districts are walkable areas of a city or town that feature numerous cultural facilities, activities and/or assets. Bristol received its Cultural District designation in August 2022 from the Connecticut Office of the Arts and is one of only five cities/towns in the state to have received this designation.
Bring your family and friends to the museum to see this fun seasonal display! It’s also a great time for visitors to check out the museum shop for one-of-a-kind gifts to help round out your holiday shopping.
The event is sponsored by Bristol Health and Coppermine Advisors, LLC.
Mantels for the Season is included in the price of admission. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve).
