Thought I' d bring this to everyone's attention.
There have been
several reported attempts over the last few weeks from
out of state (and foreign) visitors to scam money from people trying sell
goods through our classifieds.
The scam goes like this:
A buyer calls or emails the seller saying they are very interested in
purchasing the item you have for sale. The buyer calls again requesting
more information and/or a picture of the item. A third time they call
saying the want to purchase the $50.00 item. What they do is send
you a $1000.00 check, telling you they will pay $100.00
(for the $50.00 item) and asking that you send the item and
the $900 difference in a cashiers check. Of course,
the $1000.00 check bounces and you are now out $900 plus
the item you sent..
Suggestions:
1) Only Deal with Local Buyers
2) Ask for a Phone Number
3) Deal Face to Face
